Important changes will take place from January 1st 2007.
If you would like someone from the NUT to come to your school and talk to members, or to a staff meeting, about the changes, please contact the office.
Basically, all existing teachers retain the right to retire at 60 with no reduction in their pensions. New entrants from January 1st 2007 will have a normal pension age of 65, but will benefit from a better pension formula.
There are also some improvements for existing teachers, such as more choice in how the pension and the lump sum is divided, a pension for unmarried partners, and an increase in the death in service lump sum.
The changes are explained in the current edition of ‘The Teacher’ and on the NUT’s website at www .teachers .org .uk
